I think we might have wandered into the Vulture mine area around the same time.

I remember being there and some old caretaker showing us where the roof of the mine had caved in because the made-of-gold support beams had been chiseled away by greedy miners.

Nice area of Arizona too...remember hiking the area near there and the Hassayumpa River.

I like your exploration of the Ghost Towns. Nice Series :)

Can't wait to see more of your adventures. Makes me miss Arizona in the worst way, and some of my own explorations, not only to the ghost towns, but the edges of 'civilization' in my home state. Keep it up Bostrom!

Back in the day -- the late 70's My friends and I frequented the Vulture when it was for all intents and purposes abandoned -- we dicovered it on an outing with our geology class looking for ghosttowns and mines - there was an old guy who was care taker an he would show us around -- he had a crush on my girlfriend at the time Debbie (RIP). He told us many stories of the place and took us to some of the shafts.

later in te late 80's I went and was chased off buy a less friendly guy with a shotgun and two big dogs.

I guess now it is open to the public again that's great.

Desert (as opposed to deserted) ghost towns are something of an obsession with me as well. Some beautiful pix. I do remember how much you love your own home state, and it shows in the pix. Thanks Barry Goldwater!
