Denny Tedesco, son of the late studio guitar master Tommy Tedesco, is releasing a documentary called "The Wrecking Crew" about the great studio musicians of the sixties who worked in the Los Angeles music studios. It will be shown in March and April at Film Festivals. Hal Blaine is featured, too.

Oh man what a treat, you got to interview the master. Some people just have a knack for playing the right stuff. Talking about masters are you playing with anyone?

Great interview, great to hear about him finally. My favorite drummer, besides that Derrick Bostrom guy, has to be Mark Pickerel of the Screaming Trees. Very underrated, very good player.

I wasn't aware of Hal Blaine prior to this entry; but the day after I read this, I was reading this month's Tape Op (issue 55 Sep/Oct 2006, p. 14) and there is a brief mention of him there too. An engineer requested advice on how to keep the hi-hat sound from wrecking the rest of the drum mix. Predictably, the responses could be divided into opposing camps of technology (Pro Tools) and technique (hire a studio-competent drummer). Taking the technique side, producer Steve Fisk added the postscript that "Hal Blaine never had this problem."
