No, your argument about the Courts is false. The current, and last Court has not made an issue is personal beliefs. Unlike past Courts (Warren and Burger), they use the Constitution to decide Constitutional Law, not what they think the Constitution should have said.

Don't confuse the religious right with the nutjobs in Topeka. They are seperate. I agree, that the religous right has a lot of stroke, but they are very different then the Topeka people.

About your communism criticism. The ONLY ones who think it is a good idea are those who have not lived under it. Why do you think Cubans risk their life to come to America? Don't take your liberties for granted. That would be foolish.

Ronald Reagan, the "Great Communicator" was the first politician to attach the the word "relief" to "tax". We have demonized taxes instead of considering them an investment.Any program designed for the general public, especially the less off general public, is met with suspicion. I don't think other comparable countries are trained to be nearly as tax-phobic and social program-phobic as Americans. There is a big disconnect in our theories of citizenship and our actual practice of it

You're certainly entitled to your opinion, Todd. But it's a fact that the current administration courts and uses the extreme religious right for its own political gain. So like it or not, it's the Republican party that gets tarred for the group's actions. I wouldn't support them either if I were you.

But just to fair, I will offer a little gratuitous criticism of the Democrats: not nearly enough of them think communism is a good idea.

"Meanwhile, their unofficial sponsor, the Republican party"

Seems a little harsh to me. None of the Republicans I know support this group in any way, shape, or form. That's like saying all Democrats think communism is a good idea. It is just not true.

In Glasgow, we learned of the phenomenon of installing blue lights in clubs and on the street, so the drug addicts cannot find their veins. We also learned that Glasgow is indeed comparatively violent. I would chalk it up as fallout from an economy heavily weighted towards industry. Additionally, we heard that Glasgow is one of the most unhealthy cities in Europe due to its dampness. And despite all these things, we also found it extremely charming.

My friend's father grew up in Glasgow, and apparently they pretty much have a very similar sort of seemingly incomprehensible violent crime, but a sort of different tradition. That is, in America, the gun is the ubiquitous item of choice, but apparently there it's knives. That's why Glasgow is the knifing capital of the world.

Yeah, recent events in America are just insane. It's almost incomprehensible how they just totally redefine torture in a narrow sense. Or that basically anyone can have their rights stripped of them...
