Unfortunately, the high premium I place on my time would require me to ask for seventeen million dollars a lesson. That's the free market in action, baby!

I agree that voting these days is all about the "product" and not the actual process of governing. I admit, I was sucked into the excitement of the mid-term elections, but then quickly came back to our depressing reality. I still think our only hope is to vote against one party rule but the only drawback is that the elections are fixed!
So, I guess the only option left IS to change within and educate others.

PS My husband and I, along with our son (18) are old Meat Puppets fans. Our son plays the drums and we were wondering if by any chance you would give private drum lessons. We might live in your same general area of North Phoenix. We live off 37th St and Greenway.

I assume then that Snyder feels the country was set up wrong from the start (and I'm not saying he's wrong), but why would there have been such a confrontation over the Virginia plan vs. the New Jersey plan if it was all just an attempt to make approval seekers feel good about themselves? It seems to me things were designed to give more power to the average person, and they have power if they desire it...North Dakota had a socialist flavor there for a while...
Not being too familiar with Snyder I wonder if he has a country in mind that we should model ourselves after? Norway? Do you have a country you feel we should model ourselves after?

I suppose it depends on what kind of change you crave. If, say, you really hated reality shows, it would satisfy you to see them cancelled. But if you had a beef with television itself, those cancellations wouldn't go near far enough.

I enjoyed the Jeff Synder essay but didn't really agree with alot of it. Everything is more or less an opnion until it becomes an invasion or a tax or whatever. Every bill is an opinion until it becomes a law. I think a lot of the positive change in this country between the 50's and the 70's was the result of voting. Of course the cold war and other events shaped our country, but if it were not for the vote the vast military industrial complex would have taken over much sooner then it has. Of course I am a starry-eyed liberal, and however idealistic I might be I think the vote last Tuesday was a giant step in the right direction, even if many of the Democrats elected would have been considered Republicans just a few years ago. Taking out just a few of the Bush/Rove lackeys can only be good thing....
